Seeking Booking and Management Leader for FSQ

Background:

FSQ - aka Funk Style Quality - is a six person production team led by Chuck Da Fonk Fishman. We are signed to the dance duo Soul Clap’s artist run record label, Soul Clap Records. You can check our music out here and read our story here.

FSQ produces original quality music across a diversity of styles, including soul, funk, disco and house music. To meet our fans on the dance floor, Chuck Da Fonk DJs on behalf of FSQ, and we also have a live funk band, FSQ and The SQ’s (The Supreme Qualities).

From 2013-2020 Chuck was based in New York City where he and his DJ partner and FSQ member Sa’d The Hourchild Ali (RIP) established themselves as a dynamic duo, regularly spinning locally at venues including Cielo, LeBain, Output, Elsewhere, Jupiter Disco, Ponyboy, Good Room, Nublu and Black Flamingo.

Beyond NYC, FSQ gave all of their life force in European cities specifically, London, Amsterdam, Barcelona (and Ibiza). FSQ made the festival and conference circuit including multiple performances at Miami Music Week, Movement Festival Detroit, Voodoo Festival New Orleans, and Moonrise Festival Baltimore.

The pandemic shook up our world and today Chuck is based in Los Angeles and is DJing for FSQ locally and he plans to bring back The SQ’s to support live band performances for FSQ. Sa’d The Hourchild Ali passed away in 2018.

We find the LA and larger Southern California music scene to be a bit daunting in terms of establishing ourselves here as a DJ act and live band. The venues are not as concentrated in a particular area (e.g Brooklyn), there are lots of pop up warehouse parties, and boutique festivals are prominent across the region. We are seeking a locally based, talented music professional to first increase our access to potential fans in Southern California through DJ and live bookings, and later to think bigger as we grow.

What we are looking for:

  • Some existing knowledge of Los Angeles venues, parties, promoters as well as the boutique festivals in the region

  • A willingness to reach out to those parties and identify the right contacts, and if possible leverage your own network in the dance music and live band arenas

  • Ability to sell music acts to talent buyers

  • Passionate about dance music specifically funk, disco and house music, and if not already a willingness to dig into those genres

What we need you to do:

  • Identify and make 1-2 key bookings a month for FSQ (DJ set with Chuck Da Fonk) and once a quarter FSQ and The SQ’s (6 person live band) in the LA area

  • Develop a cadence of bookings that is part of a larger audience acquisition strategy

Hours and Pay:

  • We expect that if you have a solid sense of the LA music market, a good network, and our value proposition, that it will not take more than a few emails and calls to make this happen.

  • We are willing to consider paying an upfront retainer fee until the bookings start to happen, and then after that a generous 20-25% of booking fee depending on the size of the event.

  • There are additional opportunties to work with us - for instance managing our email list, audience development / CRM and promotion of events; also identify other paid opportunities as a manager taking 15% of revenues
