Fear of Black Music

The episode opens with part 2 of a tribute to Tina Turner focused on many of the 80s dance remixes that were made of her records from that period.

Then, Chuck Da Fonk turns to a deep crate of disco and funk to spin, with many tracks that seem to have been rejected by Los Angeles dancefloor crowds at his recent gigs. He wonders, was it a fear of black music?

Trombonist Fred Wesley and his saxophone playing partner Maceo Park are celebrated here, including their contributions to De La Soul’s “Buhloone Mindstate” album from 1993, the horn players’ own work within the P-Funk realm, and Fred’s production and arrangement for late 70s / early 80s Curtom and RSO record sides.
